COURSE DESCRIPTION
Explore the successful world of Eric Reis’s ‘Lean Startup’ that has revolutionised the way entrepreneurs conceive new ideas and companies do business. In a move away from rigid structures and elaborate up front designing, the Lean Startup guides leaders on concisely integrating their ideas or hypothesis in a diagram to reflect how they can create value, as opposed to spending months in research and planning. Students will achieve this using Osterwalder’s Business Model Canvas, that will equip them to visualise their professional projects on a canvas, with each of the nine sectors depicting essentials of the business process.
The course will take students through Lean Startup pillars such as the Minimal Viable Product (MVP), enabling them to create minimal but functioning plans, and test their viability through customer feedback in continuation of the ‘Build, Measure and Learn’ loop. Based on the process of customer development, students will decide whether their plans need to ‘Pivot’ or ‘Persevere’ centred on the Lean Startup model. The methodology of Agile development allows the creation of MVPs, and thus will form a key part of this course in building cost-effective and low-risk businesses.
